Sigh…

This is a perfect distillation of everything I want my home to be…

All the elements are perfect. All I would need is a cup of tea and that two part Nabokov biography I’ve been meaning to read…

Okay, people. We need to cook up a new holiday for the summer. Something with, eh, gifts, cards, assorted gougeables.

Some gifty ideas…

Comme des Garcons wallet – Bright color, cool embossed pattern, this wallet whispers “I’m from a cool Japanese designer”.

Good-Bye Nicholai Ivanovich! Ring – I don’t know why, but I have a major crush on this ring. Maybe because it combines two of my favorite things: pigs and Russian literature…

Print by Simon Page – this graphic print would look pretty sharp above my Bertoia chair.

Just some thoughts…don’t go pulling out your credit cards just yet. 😉

Do you ever have deja vu, Mrs. Lancaster? I don’t think so, but I could check with the kitchen.

This is not a repeat…

…its my bedroom rug, take two! Its a foot larger in each direction, and it totally does the trick. The slightly variegated black and cream stripes are very cool. Success!

Ok, so on to something super important: its my birthday in two weeks, and I have no idea what kind of present I want! This is strange, since I always want *something*…but I just can’t think of anything good. Anyone have any thoughts?

Or what? You’ll release the dogs, or the bees, or the dogs with bees in their mouths and when they bark they shoot bees at you?

The perfect pair…

I think this lamp is maybe the coolest thing I have ever bought…and that’s saying a lot! Its hard to really get the full impact in a photo, but its so smartly designed, and compact, and clever. Its in great shape considering it must be over 30 years old. And how cute is it next to that little ghosty guy from Ikea?

There is one small problem, though. My hideous alarm clock (which I shamefully hid for these images) has got to go! I’ve never liked it, but now I think it might actually offend my new lamp. Its that age old problem – all your old crap is ok, but then you buy something new and awesome, and it makes everything else look lame. Or maybe that’s just my justification to keep buying cool stuff? The world may never know the answer…

In other news, I returned my rug from West Elm, and they gave me such a hard time that I will never, ever buy anything from them again. They tried to insist that the purchase was final sale, even though there was no indication at any stage of my order! Now, having been in retail for the last 100 years of my life, I hate when people try to abuse a return policy, and therefore I very carefully read all the relevant information. No where did this item indicate it was final sale, and the store associate and call center associate were so rude and argumentative that it was hard to believe. I would probably get fired if I treated a customer the way they treated me. Oh well – their stuff is mostly crap anyway, so it won’t be a great loss to stop shopping there.

Yup, here’s your problem. Someone set this thing to “Evil”

My new rug arrived yesterday!

The texture and the color are awesome! I like how it echoes the lines of the chair while being much more organic. However…

…I think its the wrong size! Ugh, its driving me crazy. The proportions just don’t work – the mirror is so oversized and the chair is so dramatic that I feel like the rug just looks like an after-thought. The next size available is more than twice as much money, and I don’t feel like spending that kind of cash. I think I’m going to return it and look for something else – maybe a really large flokati?

Bummer…I hate returning things, but this will drive me crazy until I do…

D’oh!

View from my couch…

I’m feeling out-of-sorts today. I’d like to spend the rest of the day curled up, looking at my bookcase, trying to figure out if I still have a need for color-coded books.

So long, Stinktown!

So I have this fantasy. It involves some land, and a cutesy-yet-rundown house, and weekends spent having adorable arguments about which reclaimed wood flooring is historically accurate for the remodel. I think this would be a great place to start…

1880’s Schoolhouse, Delhi NY. Is it perfect or what? I could finally embrace my life long dream of being an obnoxious city-dweller who spends their weekends in a small country town, subtly judging the locals by wondering aloud why I can’t find a decent espresso. Clearly, I’d need to learn to like espresso, but that is a small hurdle.

Someone want to lend me $7000 for the down payment? I think Ken and I could swing the mortgage payments just fine…
